How to develop the ability of students to assess information from media and social networks? (2016)
This project is particularly timely today, bearing in mind the role of the Internet and social networks
in the life of society in general and in the lives of the upcoming generation in particular. The communication
opportunities offered by the Internet are unlimited. It floods a user with all sorts of information,
much of which is contradictory in its content and aims. The Internet is also abundant with interpretations
of past or current events, which aim for the manipulation of people’s perception and in some cases for
recruitment into extremist groups. By presenting such information in a way that appeals to young people,
extremist movements make use of young people’s maximalism, disillusionment and their search for new
and daring self-affirmation.
